BIKES AT BROWN

HOURS
CLOSED FOR WINTER

LOCATION
Urban Environmental Lab Garage
135 Angell St.
Providence, RI, 02912

Bikes at Brown is a student-operated repair & rental shop for Brown University affiliates.

HOW IT WORKS

Repairs
We offer free repairs for most bicycle problems during our open hours (below).
Examples include:
  • Loose or stuck brakes
  • Flat tires
  • Shifting issues
  • Warped rims
And more! We also stock commonly needed replacement parts, but may not have replacement parts available for rare models. Simply stop into the garage while we're open, and we'll do what we can.

Overhauls are not accepted.

An overhaul is designated as such when the bike has little to no functionality remaining. Bikes in need of overhaul are typically characterized by an excess of rust, non-functional brakes/shifting, and two flat tires. These extreme cases should be taken to a professional maintenance shop, but Bikes at Brown staff members can diagnose and provide an estimate for the expected cost of overhaul.

Rentals

Bikes are available to rent for one week, absolutely free.

All you need to do is stop into the shop, fill out a waiver, and provide us with your contact information. We also offer locks and helmets for no additional fee. Overdue rentals will be issued warning by email; failure to return bikes after warning will result in theft report to DPS.

Bikes are rented out on a first-come, first-served basis.

We want everyone on campus to be able to rent our bikes, so we cannot extend the rental period beyond one week. We are currently working to establish a purchasing system so that students in need of bikes for longer periods can purchase them from us at an affordable price.
